Minimum QualificationsMust be able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance. A minimum of 5 years of lead operator experience on multi-unit, 40-inch sheet-fed printing press (straight line or perfector) is required. Able to work all shifts (including current and newly created shift schedules), evenings, nights, weekends, and 12-hour shifts in rotation. Willingness to work a reasonable amount of overtime during the week and on weekends. Must meet the physical demands of the job (standing/walking for prolonged periods, bending/reaching, lifting/lowering up to 45 lbs). Possess fine motor skills (manual dexterity) and the mechanical aptitude to make necessary fine adjustments to equipment. Able to follow spoken and written instructions. Soft Skills and CompetenciesExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

As a Lithographic Head Press Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective and safe operation of lithographic printing machinery. Your primary objective will be to produce high-quality printed materials that adhere to established standards. You will oversee press performance throughout production runs, proactively identify and address print and mechanical challenges, and ensure that the equipment is adequately prepared, maintained, and operated.

In this position, you will provide daily guidance and mentorship to press crew members, facilitate skill enhancement within the team, and foster a workplace culture centered on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organizational standards and legal regulations.
  • Ensure that all mechanical, electrical, and electronic controls are functioning properly, cleaned, and appropriately adjusted before and after use.
  • Exhibit mechanical proficiency with inking, dampening, printing units, and feeders.
  • Delegate tasks to the 2nd Press Operator, Feeder, and Tender.
  • Train and mentor junior crew members.
  • Monitor product quality and consistency during production runs against reference standards.
  • Identify and resolve printing issues such as picking, piling, ghosting, poor ink trapping, and register problems while ensuring safe press operation.
  • Uphold quality results by following established standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
