Job Summary:
The Level 2 System Administrator plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and patching of systems hardware and software as well as related infrastructure for our ESX, Microsoft Windows, and Linux platforms. This position involves participating in technical research and development efforts to foster ongoing innovation within the infrastructure. The System Administrator is responsible for ensuring that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures meet internal and external standards and security requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement solutions for various internal projects and operational needs.
- Install new servers and rebuild existing servers while configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc., in line with standards and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive installation and configuration procedures.
- Contribute to and uphold system standards.
- Research and suggest innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
- Conduct daily system monitoring, ensuring the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and critical processes, while reviewing system and application logs and confirming the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform regular security monitoring to detect potential intrusions.
- Support daily backup operations, ensuring all necessary file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, while creating recovery tapes or disks and recycling media as needed.
- Manage regular file archival and purging as necessary.
- Provide escalation support as needed, investigating and troubleshooting issues.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
