This fully remote role is based in New York City and sits at the intersection of Design, Engineering, and AI tooling. The position focuses on building, maintaining, and expanding our system across all user interfaces, directly influencing development speed, product quality, and consistency. Collaboration is key, with close partnerships across Engineering (including CI/CD, tokens, and tooling), Creative (brand alignment and evolution), and Product Design (development and iteration).
Key Responsibilities
- Define and advance a multi-platform design system for web and mobile, with an emphasis on architecture, governance, and scalability.
- Own the product roadmap, prioritize initiatives based on product needs, adoption gaps, and system performance.
- Work alongside Design and Creative leaders to ensure high standards of craftsmanship, modern interaction patterns, and brand adaptability.
- Design and build core system components, including APIs, variants, and composition patterns that are intuitive, flexible, and scalable.
- Maintain visual precision, fidelity, accessibility (including React Aria), and strong interaction quality, including motion and state management.
- Iterate on components based on product feedback and edge cases.
- Implement automated quality assurance systems, such as visual regression testing, and regularly audit for usability and craftsmanship. Advocate for system quality across teams.
- Lead migration of legacy UI components, ensuring adoption in key product areas such as CTAs and checkout flows.
- Enhance Developer Experience by designing component APIs that balance flexibility with ease of use.
- Build and maintain a tool-to-code pipeline (Figma, Claude, Builder, etc.) to keep design artifacts aligned with production components.
- Partner with Engineering on architecture decisions, including CI/CD, token systems, and distribution, and support enforcement mechanisms like linting and token constraints.
- Introduce and standardize AI-assisted workflows, structuring components for AI-friendly generation and integrating tools (Builder.io, Gemini, etc.) to support consistency.
