Role overview
The Android Platform team at Reddit sets the technical direction for Android development company-wide. This group is responsible for building and maintaining the Reddit Android app, as well as the libraries, frameworks, observability tools, and build/CI systems that support reliable and engaging user experiences.
As Lead Staff Android Engineer - Clients Platform, this role provides technical leadership within the Android organization. The primary focus is on three areas: Client Health (including crashes, ANRs, and performance), Developer Experience, and App Architecture.
What you will do
- Architect the Reddit Android app to scale for over 100 million daily active users.
- Design tools, workflows, and CI integrations to streamline Android development and release processes.
- Establish and implement guardrails such as lint/static analysis, tests, and AI-assisted reviews to catch issues early.
- Build and improve foundations for client health and observability, including events, traces, and dashboards.
- Integrate AI into engineering workflows, such as code review and static analysis, to boost productivity.
- Mentor Android engineers through design reviews, documentation, and sharing knowledge about platform capabilities.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in Android development, with a track record of technical leadership.
- Deep understanding of Android architecture, libraries, and tools.
- Ability to improve developer efficiency and code quality through creative tooling and process improvements.
- Experience with observability tools and metrics.
- Strong interest in mentoring and developing engineering talent.
