Team and Product Focus

The Data Hub team at HubSpot connects scattered data sources to deliver practical insights for Revenue Operations, marketing, sales, and customer teams. By integrating information from various channels and tools, the team improves data quality and makes this data actionable within HubSpot. This enables teams to run AI-powered demand generation, optimize campaigns, and produce reliable reports, without requiring deep expertise in data systems.

Product engineering here blends data engineering, machine learning, applied AI, and market strategy. The group prioritizes reliability, cost efficiency, and scalability, while always considering usability for marketers and sales professionals.

Role Overview

HubSpot is seeking a Lead Principal Software Engineer to steer the next phase of Data Hub's development. This platform is evolving into the central engine for data-driven demand generation company-wide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of critical components in the data lake and analytics architecture, working with technologies such as Iceberg, Spark, and both batch and streaming data pipelines. These systems underpin large-scale demand generation, segmentation, and scoring.
  • Design and refine data systems to achieve the right balance between cost, latency, data freshness, and reliability. Apply principles like the CAP theorem, efficient partitioning, and thoughtful storage layout to guide decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, product analytics, and go-to-market leaders to deliver solutions that drive business outcomes: improved lead scoring, enhanced funnel visibility, audience segmentation, and campaign attribution for marketing and sales.
  • Contribute to transforming Data Hub into an AI-powered platform, aiming for curated, always-available datasets that support AI agents and reporting tools, eliminating the need for manual integrations or custom pipelines.

This is a hands-on principal engineering position. The role involves building systems, working alongside product and design, and amplifying the impact of HubSpot's broader engineering community.
