Xero is on the lookout for a Lead Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team responsible for the Xero Accounting App (XAA). This flagship mobile application empowers small business owners to manage their finances conveniently on the go. In this pivotal role, you will lead the charge in balancing rapid product delivery with a steadfast commitment to system health and best engineering practices, utilizing AI to enhance productivity and deliver value to our customers efficiently.

You will engage in complex problem-solving, exercise advanced technical judgment, and define both the objectives and methodologies for multi-year, multi-team product and platform initiatives.

Your leadership will enhance team performance by providing clear goals, eliminating obstacles, and fostering a psychologically safe and inclusive work culture.

Team Dynamics

Our engineering teams are dedicated to creating exceptional mobile experiences through the Xero Accounting app. We thrive in a collaborative, high-velocity, and hybrid environment, working closely with Product and Design teams to deliver beautiful mobile solutions quickly. We also maintain strong partnerships with web, platform, and domain teams to ensure seamless and reliable experiences across all user channels.

Current Projects

  • Lead initiatives that create high-impact mobile workflows to address key user tasks such as banking, invoicing, payments, and file management, consistently exceeding customer expectations.

  • Champion operational excellence with a focus on a "production-first" mindset, ensuring availability, accuracy, security, and scalability by automating delivery pipelines and troubleshooting common failure patterns. You will also spearhead incident responses and advocate for proactive health monitoring to maintain system resilience.

  • Drive continuous improvements in work efficiency by identifying technical waste, simplifying complex designs, and adopting modern practices, including AI, to accelerate value delivery to customers.

Work Environment

Our teams are based in Australia, with this hybrid role situated in Melbourne or Sydney. We offer the flexibility to balance focused work with collaborative efforts in our well-appointed offices.
