POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Early Childhood Instructional Specialist at Antelope Valley College, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for children from birth to school age. Under the supervision of the Director of the Child Development Center, you will provide oversight and management of activities while offering support to college students through information dissemination and hands-on training. You will also take on various responsibilities as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of our educational programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design, implement, and oversee educational programs that align with state guidelines and the ethos of the Child Development Center. (E)
- Tailor program elements to meet the unique needs of each child, considering their individual interests, skills, and learning styles. (E)
- Ensure a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment that respects ethnic and family diversity. (E)
- Supervise other adults in the classroom to facilitate smooth coordination of activities and foster positive adult-child interactions. (E)
- Engage in professional development opportunities, including training sessions, workshops, and conferences. (E)
- Encourage children to recognize their roles as active participants in the group, accommodating children who speak languages other than English.
- Prepare materials for in-service training and assist in evaluating practicum and student performance.
- Effectively utilize classroom assistants to enhance learning outcomes.
- Conduct general setup and cleanup tasks, including lifting equipment and ensuring cleanliness of materials and surroundings.
- Participate in community outreach and public relations initiatives organized by the school.
- Incorporate technology and computer-supported instruction within the classroom setting.
- Gather additional resources to enrich learning experiences and cater to specific interests.
- Document and collect skills samples in compliance with state Desired Results forms for children's assessments. (E)
- Ensure children's safety and hygiene, assist with toilet training, diaper changes, and monitor outdoor play. (E)
- Handle various administrative tasks including report preparation, ordering educational materials, and communication with families.
- Utilize software applications to create educational resources and documentation.
- Establish partnerships with local organizations to expand Child Development Center initiatives.
- Provide basic first aid and CPR when necessary; assist children during mealtimes. (E)
