Join the Prestage Farms Family! We are on the lookout for a passionate Swine Genetics Technician to become a vital member of our team at the Swine Genetics Complex. In this dynamic role, you will be entrusted with the essential tasks of collecting, training, feeding, and caring for our boars. Your contributions will support our daily operations, ensuring the health, productivity, and genetic advancement of our herd. This position demands reliability, a keen attention to animal welfare, and the capability to work early morning shifts and some weekends. Key Responsibilities:
- Efficiently collect boar semen daily.
- Provide daily nutrition by managing the feed cart in the breeding barn.
- Train new boars as necessary.
- Administer medications to boars when required.
- Maintain cleanliness in boar rooms consistently.
- Assist in blood collection and detusking procedures.
- Power wash boar rooms bi-annually.
- Work in isolation as needed.
- Restock supplies in the room daily.
- Perform maintenance on buildings and equipment as required.
- Assist with laundry, cleaning showers, and break rooms when necessary.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical competence to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in various measurement units, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Capacity to apply common sense in following instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical Requirements:
- Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and controls; ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Capability to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, especially during blood collection and detusking activities.
- Specific visual abilities required for close and peripheral vision.
