The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the accurate execution of the agency’s key disbursement cycles, including payroll, housing assistance payments, and mortgage debt obligations. This position guarantees that all employees and landlords receive timely and precise payments.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Administration & Processing
- Oversee the complete payroll cycle for all agency personnel, utilizing Paychex for accurate wage calculations, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.
- Maintain comprehensive employee records within the payroll system, encompassing new hire setups, terminations, and modifications to compensation or tax status.
- Prepare biweekly payroll for final review and approval by the Controller.
- Section 8 Program Disbursement
- Generate voucher payments for all Section 8 programs, including Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) and utility reimbursements.
- Verify bank balances to ensure adequate funds for all scheduled disbursements.
- Supervise the processing split between Direct Deposit (ACH) and check payments, ensuring landlord payment data accuracy.
- Identify and rectify payment discrepancies to avert delays in housing assistance.
- Accounting Processes
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations for all agency accounts.
- Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger.
- Reconcile subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger to identify and resolve variances.
- Submit mortgage, insurance, and Shell Gas invoices to Accounts Payable for payment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
