Purpose
The Service Delivery Director (SDD) is pivotal in steering strategic leadership, providing technical direction, and ensuring operational excellence for Amref Health Africa's service delivery initiatives in Ethiopia. This role is essential in delivering high-quality, equitable, and integrated primary health care services, focusing on critical areas like Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health (MNCH). The SDD is dedicated to enhancing health outcomes for mothers, newborns, and children. Additionally, this position addresses adolescent and youth nutrition, promoting healthy practices and tackling nutritional needs in younger populations, alongside implementing effective disease prevention and control measures.
In addition to these core health services, the SDD oversees programs addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDH), particularly emphasizing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities, thereby enhancing public health. Youth Development and Engagement is another vital focus area, where the SDD fosters active participation and empowerment of youth within health initiatives. By integrating health systems strengthening with MNCH, WASH, youth engagement, and disease control, the SDD adopts a comprehensive approach to drive measurable improvements in health outcomes and enhance the resilience of health systems across the region.
Key Responsibilities
II. Strategic Leadership and Technical Direction
1. Service Delivery Strategy & Systems Strengthening
- Lead the formulation and implementation of Amref Ethiopia's service delivery strategy aligned with national health sector priorities and Amref's global vision.
- Ensure integrated delivery of MNCH, disease prevention, and primary health care services across all programmatic areas.
- Fortify health system components, including service quality, workforce capacity, supply chain coordination, referral systems, and community-health facility linkages.
- Encourage the application of evidence-based, high-impact interventions throughout the maternal, neonatal, and child health continuum of care.
- Ensure the incorporation of preventive and promotional services within primary health care platforms.
2. Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health (MNCH) Leadership
- Provide comprehensive technical oversight for MNCH programs to guarantee quality, accessibility, equity, and measurable reductions in maternal and child morbidity and mortality.
- Ensure the execution of demand creation strategies and community engagement models that enhance the uptake of MNCH services.
- Guide quality assurance systems, clinical mentorship, and training initiatives for MNCH service providers.
