About the job
Waymo, a pioneering autonomous driving technology firm, is dedicated to becoming the most trusted driver in the world. Originating from the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, we have been committed to creating the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility access and save lives lost in traffic accidents. With our fully autonomous ride-hail service, the Waymo Driver has successfully completed over ten million rider-only trips, having driven over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across more than 15 U.S. states.
Our Software Engineering team develops the core intelligence behind Waymo’s fully autonomous driving technology. By enabling the Waymo Driver to interpret its surroundings, make informed decisions, and transport individuals safely to their destinations, we tackle intricate technical challenges in robotics, perception, decision-making, and deep learning, and work closely with hardware and systems engineers. If you are a passionate and inquisitive software engineer or researcher interested in Level 4 autonomous driving, we want to connect with you.
The Sensor Foundations Team is responsible for delivering high-quality, processed sensor data through optimized APIs for Perception models. We abstract hardware variances where feasible and provide essential Perception signals via algorithms or machine learning. Projects within our team require a versatile skill set, encompassing robotics, system integration, code optimization, and machine learning expertise. We possess a robust understanding of both sensor and compute hardware, as well as the overall Perception framework. We seek a proficient Software Engineer with experience in robotics and machine learning to help us streamline the transition from algorithms to machine learning for low-level Perception tasks.
This position operates on a hybrid schedule and reports directly to the Technical Lead Manager of the Sensor Foundations Team.
