About the job
About Marathon Fusion
Marathon Fusion is at the forefront of engineering technologies, dedicated to advancing fusion energy from experimental phases to operational power plants. Unlike many in the industry who are focused on new fusion devices, we prioritize the practical systems that can make fusion a viable energy source at a climate-relevant scale.
Our innovations encompass core fuel cycle and plant-level technologies aimed at stable isotope production, closing the fuel cycle, and developing advanced blanket systems that facilitate both energy generation and high-value co-products.
Founded in 2023, Marathon Fusion is committed to constructing the components and systems necessary for making fusion a practical, abundant, and reliable energy source for the 21st century.
Culture at Marathon Fusion
We embody a startup culture that thrives on focus, adaptability, and prioritization in a rapidly changing environment. Success here demands excellent proactive communication across diverse roles, the ability to build and maintain trust among team members, and a commitment to personal growth and skill development. We place significant importance on each team member's capacity for self-direction.
Role Description
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of mechanical engineers, physicists, and technicians to prototype, test, and deploy innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the fusion fuel cycle and stable isotope production. We are looking for an engineer who has practical experience in designing and testing electromechanical systems.
This role requires a combination of practical engineering expertise and systems-level thinking. You will be instrumental in the development and refinement of a groundbreaking isotope separation device through system and component design, as well as hands-on prototyping and testing.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the iterative design and enhancement of an isotope separation system, focusing on robust and scalable deployment.
- Work closely with engineers, physicists, and technicians to prototype, test, and troubleshoot components and integrated systems.
- Develop a first-principles understanding of key physical processes, guiding improvements based on experimental data and literature.
- Clearly document experimental results and decisions to inform design iterations and process development.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering their technical development and strengthening engineering capabilities within the team.
