Position Summary:
The Senior Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is tasked with overseeing the comprehensive management of our environmental, health, and safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, promoting workplace safety, and advocating for environmental sustainability. This pivotal role will involve the implementation of policies, conducting thorough risk assessments, and cultivating a culture of safety and sustainability throughout Ocular Therapeutix.
This is a newly established position, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA). Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and inspections to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
- Program Management: Oversee EHS programs encompassing occupational health, process safety, waste management, and emergency response. Coordinate preparedness efforts for emergencies that may affect employees, facilities, or the environment. Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including inspections, training, and documentation.
- Chemical Safety Officer: Manage chemical inventory and disposal, develop emergency response plans for incidents such as spills, provide guidance on risk assessments to reduce hazards, and train staff on safe chemical handling and emergency protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Serve as a technical expert on chemical hazard control and laboratory design reviews.
- Training and Culture: Educate employees on safety protocols and spearhead initiatives to instill a proactive culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship across the organization.
