About the job
About WalletConnect
WalletConnect stands as a pillar of the Web3 infrastructure, establishing the essential connectivity layer that enables secure communication between wallets and applications across various blockchains. Since our inception in 2018, we have expanded to a network of over 75,000 applications, more than 700 wallets, and 50 million users. Our mission is to revolutionize the financial internet, ensuring digital ownership and payment solutions are both interoperable and accessible.
We have recently introduced WalletConnect Pay, a groundbreaking payments solution that allows merchants and payment providers to harness blockchain technology for innovative payment experiences, including stablecoin checkouts, payouts, and deposits.
Supported by $38 million from notable investors such as Union Square Ventures, Shopify, Coinbase Ventures, Circle Ventures, and Uniswap Labs, we are a globally distributed, remote-first organization that prioritizes openness, simplicity, innovation, and ownership.
Why Now
We are embarking on our most ambitious phase yet. WalletConnect Pay represents a comprehensive crypto and stablecoin payment method built upon the world's largest wallet network. It is already integrated with platforms such as Stripe, Coinbase Commerce, Shopify, MoonPay, Shift4, and BitPay, and features a significant partnership with Ingenico that enables stablecoin payments at over 40 million terminals across more than 120 countries.
As WalletConnect Pay rapidly scales, the engineering demands are increasing. We are developing payment orchestration, merchant tooling, settlement infrastructure, internal business systems, and the SDKs that unify these components. We seek seasoned backend engineers who can take charge of complex problem spaces, deliver production-grade services, and help establish the engineering foundation for the next generation of on-chain payments.
The Role
This position is for a Senior Backend Engineer on the WalletConnect Pay team. Your work will span various areas including payment orchestration, merchant APIs, settlement flows, internal business services, and the infrastructure that underpins them.
Your specific contributions will depend on team needs and your individual strengths. Some engineers may delve deeply into payment orchestration and partner integrations, while others may concentrate on merchant-facing APIs and developer experience or build internal services that drive finance, operations, and compliance workflows. Regardless, you will take senior-level ownership of backend development: designing APIs, constructing services, managing your deployments, and ensuring the systems you create are accurate, observable, and production-ready.
On a daily basis, you will write technical design documents, deploy production code, collaborate on architectural decisions with your engineering lead, and operate with the autonomy and accountability that a senior individual contributor in a dynamic payments team is expected to demonstrate. Your primary programming languages will be Rust and TypeScript, with infrastructure managed through AWS and Terraform.
We anticipate engineers to effectively utilize AI tools in their daily tasks, including AI-assisted coding combined with their expertise.
