What You'll Drive
- Ensure a constant on-site presence to oversee and guarantee the safe execution of daily Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities.
- Facilitate the Permit to Work (PTW) process for maintenance and high-risk tasks, ensuring all permits are valid, complete, and compliant with safety standards.
- Verify isolation points, lockout devices, and energy control measures in alignment with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Confirm that hot work, confined space, electrical, chemical, working at height, and excavation permits adhere to required safety protocols.
- Identify unsafe actions, conditions, and operational deviations; ensure prompt corrections and follow-ups.
- Conduct toolbox talks, pre-task briefings, and awareness sessions focused on specific O&M hazards.
- Deliver bilingual Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training to boost worker understanding and engagement.
- Assist in incident and near-miss reporting, ensuring accurate data collection from the field.
- Participate in initial investigation phases and escalate incidents following internal and client protocols.
- Support the onboarding and induction process for new staff and contractors, emphasizing O&M process safety and site-specific hazards.
- Maintain essential OHS documentation, including inspection records, equipment registers, safety logs, and training attendance records.
- Monitor the proper handling, transfer, and storage of chemicals, and verify the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in chemical areas, ensuring compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) requirements.
- Adhere to local regulatory and client-specific OHS instructions, contributing to plant-wide assessments and independent safety surveys.
- Assist in the development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and task-based risk assessments.
- Promptly escalate safety concerns and ensure follow-through until resolution.
- Support the execution of emergency drills, inspections of emergency equipment, and preparedness for chemical spills, gas releases, electrical faults, or process disturbances.
- Maintain basic safety reporting using Word, Excel, and plant reporting tools.
- Generate concise field reports, observation notes, and inspection summaries.
- This position reports directly to the BESIX O&M OHS Engineer.
