About Shelter House
Founded in 1981, Shelter House has been a pillar of support against homelessness in Fairfax County. We have evolved alongside community needs, building strong partnerships with government entities, private partners, and local citizens. Role Overview
The Residential Coordinator is vital to our domestic violence shelter, ensuring 24-hour awake coverage and supervision. Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, this role involves crisis intervention, facilities management, and fostering a safe and supportive living environment. The Residential Coordinator's responsibilities include maintaining the safety of residents and safeguarding Shelter House's property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guarantee the shelter operates safely and provides a secure environment for clients.
- Handle all incoming calls and inquiries while upholding confidentiality.
- Respond to crisis calls from the Fairfax County Domestic Violence Hotline and develop safety plans and needs assessments.
- Document all client interactions and significant shelter events in the daily log.
- Collaborate with case managers to support client service plans and communicate client progress.
- Accompany clients to court and other appointments to help achieve their goals.
- Conduct efficient shift exchanges with incoming staff and report on daily activities for continuity.
- Ensure all documentation complies with agency best practices and is duly completed.
- Assess and provide for the basic needs of clients, distributing household items and toiletries as necessary.
- Uphold the dignity and confidentiality of all clients during service delivery.
