This crucial role provides essential support to technologists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals within the Imaging Services department. The Radiology Technician Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring smooth patient flow through the imaging departments. Key responsibilities include preparing exam/procedure rooms prior to patient arrival, verifying paperwork, escorting patients to and from waiting and changing areas, assisting technologists and nurses during exams, and managing film and paperwork for completed procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver compassionate care to patients throughout their treatment/procedure in accordance with departmental and hospital standards, considering age-specific sensitivities and Patients' First guidelines.
- Prepare procedure rooms for patient arrivals, ensuring all necessary systems and support are in place.
- Assist in preparing patients for examinations, including explaining procedures and addressing basic inquiries, while possessing knowledge about MR safety for relevant assignments.
- Follow technologists' and nurses' directions to assist in performing exams and procedures.
- Manage the processing of CDs as required, assist in lifting and escorting patients, and maintain compliance with the NMH Safe Patient Handling Policy.
- Coordinate patient care in accordance with departmental imaging protocols, effectively communicating with clinical and medical staff to facilitate patient flow.
- Ensure physician orders are reconciled with the correct exam protocols, escalating any discrepancies to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Prepare all necessary documentation and information to facilitate treatment/procedures.
- Retrieve physician orders from all relevant order systems, including EPIC, Chartview, and Powerchart.
- Assist in verifying patient demographic information for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor patient schedules to ensure effective flow through diagnostic areas, promptly informing coordinators, charge techs, and patients of any delays.
- Identify and gather necessary paperwork to initiate exams, ensuring appropriate handling of external films and patient requests.
- Recognize and report any issues to the appropriate supervisors.
- Utilize scheduling systems, including Radnet and PACS, proficiently, and monitor the availability of supplies in treatment/procedure rooms.
