The Principal Geologist serves as the technical authority in Grade Control, Mine Exploration, and Mineral Resource Management at Rosebel Gold Mines. Collaborating closely with Mine Engineering, Drill & Blast, and Operations, this role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to RGM’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards while significantly contributing to the expansion of Rosebel’s resources and reserves through proficient grade control, exploration, and geological modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grade Control:
- Lead the Grade Control team in RC and blast hole sampling, ensuring technical excellence.
- Enhance ore/waste delineation to minimize dilution by implementing best mining practices.
- Analyze blast patterns and ore control models (packet modeling).
- Validate monthly Mine and Mill production figures.
- Conduct comprehensive monthly reconciliation reviews and interpret results effectively.
- Oversee annual evaluations of production block model parameters, including variography and capping.
- Ensure continuous communication with Drill & Blast, Mine Operations, and Mine Engineering teams.
- Mine Exploration:
- Oversee data collection, logging, and geological interpretation with a technical lens.
- Formulate and assess a rolling 5-year near-mine exploration strategy to promote resource expansion.
- Review and authorize near-mine drilling initiatives, including infill and expansion campaigns.
- Ensure rigorous QA/QC standards are upheld and validated prior to geological and resource modeling.
- Mineral Resource Modeling:
- Guarantee timely provision of drilling data, geological models, and resource models to align with corporate deadlines.
- Scrutinize, validate, and endorse geological models developed on-site.
