This role involves performing inspections of plumbing installations, repairs, or alterations to ensure they conform to NYC Construction Codes, departmental rules, and approved plans and specifications. Under general supervision, the Plumbing Inspector will:
- Conduct technical inspections of plumbing, gas, and fire suppression systems (including sprinklers and standpipes) to ensure compliance with the NYC Construction Code and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints related to plumbing installations for regulatory compliance.
- Assess the condition of gas piping systems.
- Witness testing of drainage, water, air, gas, and fire suppression systems for compliance.
- Analyze drawings and documentation for inspection details.
- Issue violations, summonses, and stop work orders as necessary.
- Verify licenses of on-site workers and advise them on any violations.
- Prepare reports and maintain detailed records.
- Provide explanations and enforce relevant laws and regulations.
- Potentially supervise, train, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Operate a motor vehicle as required for inspections.
Physical activities include walking to inspection sites, climbing ladders and stairs, standing for extended periods, and working in various environmental conditions such as damp or dusty areas.
