Join the dynamic team at MPI Exeter as a Machine Operator in our Pipe Fabrication and Machining division. We are searching for skilled individuals who will play a crucial role in our operations, responsible for measuring, threading, and adjusting flange fit, as well as facing flanges on ductile or steel pipes. This position involves using various manual machine tools, including lathes and threaders, while also operating cranes to move pipes in and out of machining centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize personal safety and the safety of all team members.
- Assist supervisors in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including fall protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
- Promote the principles of the McWane Way throughout daily operations.
- Follow all procedures associated with the Waterman Safety Management Program and report any deviations.
- Identify fabrication requirements for each pipe piece.
- Operate forklift for internal and external pipe movement.
- Set up the pipe for machining by centering and tightening it securely.
- Machine tapered threads into the pipe, verifying measurements for thread depth and taper accuracy.
- Test flanges to ensure proper fit onto pipes.
- Apply adhesive to secure flanges to pipes using machinery.
- For Threaders: Move pipes to subsequent processing operations after threading.
- For Lathes: Ensure the flange face fits properly onto the pipe.
- Work primarily with pipes and flanges ranging from 3” to 24” in diameter and 6 inches to 18 feet in length.
- Maintain quality standards and meet production output objectives.
- Handle the painting and packaging of the finished products.
- Exhibit proficiency in basic math and measurement tools like tape measures and micrometers.
- Exhibit understanding of machinery processes.
- Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Offer assistance across various machines as needed.
- Maintain a positive, hardworking attitude and efficiency in all tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle tools and controls.
- Must effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
