Join us at the forefront of scientific innovation as a Division Leader (DL) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). In this pivotal role, you will provide expert leadership, strategic oversight, and management of the Physics Division, which plays a critical role in supporting all major Laboratory programs. These include Strategic Deterrence (SD), the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS), and Global Security (GS), alongside various programs funded by the DOE Office of Science and other non-DOE sponsors. Your leadership will guide cutting-edge research activities utilizing state-of-the-art capabilities to explore physical systems in extreme environments such as high temperatures, high pressures, and isolated quantum states. You will oversee an impressive portfolio of programs and projects valued at approximately $75M, including sponsored research and Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) initiatives. This position reports directly to the Principal Associate Director for Physical and Life Sciences (PLS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary leadership and scientific oversight for the Physics Division, fostering a culture of excellence in recruiting, hiring, and developing top-tier scientific talent.
- Develop and articulate the Division’s strategic plan, defining core capabilities and future directions, while enhancing partnerships across LLNL’s directorates.
- Manage diverse research and development activities, ensuring the establishment and enhancement of critical core competencies.
- Oversee performance management and evaluation processes for all Division staff, emphasizing ongoing training and career development.
- Manage research commitments and budgets, ensuring compliance with Laboratory and DOE fiscal policies.
- Lead program development initiatives and collaborate with organizational leaders to identify and fulfill staffing needs for current and future Laboratory programs.
- Establish and strengthen partnerships with sponsors of Physics programs, promoting integration with national and international scientific organizations.
