Northwestern Medicine is thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our esteemed outpatient neurology department within the Sleep Disorders Center. In this role, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will collaborate with nationally recognized sleep medicine experts to customize treatment plans for patients experiencing sleep and circadian disorders. Responsibilities include working closely with our physician team to manage a diverse array of sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Central Sleep Apnea (CSA), narcolepsy, insomnia, and idiopathic hypersomnia, in addition to chronic medical conditions that may impact sleep, including COPD, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, ENT issues, and psychiatric conditions.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours; no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.
Essential Functions:
- Exhibit clinical expertise and advanced knowledge through various patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of health issues.
- Accountable for the health outcomes of a designated patient population.
- Engage with collaborating physicians and other healthcare professionals to enhance clinical expertise.
- Design and implement educational programs for patients, families, and staff within areas of specialization.
- Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care methodologies.
- Actively contribute to quality improvement initiatives and research relevant to the field.
Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough health assessments by taking comprehensive health histories and conducting physical examinations.
- Deliver direct clinical care to patients.
- Prescribe medications and therapies, as well as order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies in accordance with clinical privileges.
- Assess patients' needs for additional healthcare services.
- Educate patients and families comprehensively on various health topics.
- Maintain precise documentation in medical records for all provided care and educational activities.
- Refer patients to other specialties as necessary.
- Provide consultation to other disciplines based on expertise.
- Integrate research-based knowledge with clinical skills in decision-making processes.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in appearance and interactions.
- Serve as an advocate for patients, families, colleagues, and the community.
