About the job
About Proximity Foundation
Proximity Foundation is dedicated to empowering young individuals aged 14-18 through structured coding education programs at Community Care Institutions (CCIs). Our innovative computer-based learning management system (LMS) curriculum encompasses essential skills such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL. We connect students with volunteer mentors in engaging cohort-based sessions, fostering both technical expertise and self-assurance.
As we expand from our initial cohort to multiple cohorts across Mumbai, we are building a robust operational team to sustain this impactful program. Every position at Proximity Foundation represents a meaningful investment in the future of the youth we serve.
Role Type: In-Person Volunteer (On-Site)
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week (including travel)
Location: On-site at CCIs in Andheri East, Thane, Dadar, or Jogeshwari, Mumbai (travel expenses borne by the volunteer)
Department: Program Delivery
Reports to: Program Coordinator Lead
Role Focus
As a mentor, you will deliver hands-on, in-person coding sessions to students aged 14–16 at various CCIs located in Andheri East, Thane, Dadar, and Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Your presence will be instrumental as you guide students through our LMS curriculum covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL. Each session requires travel to the designated Mumbai CCI location (up to 2 hours, once per week).
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to and conduct in-person sessions at the CCI locations in Andheri East, Thane, Dadar, or Jogeshwari, Mumbai.
- Lead mentor-led coding sessions for students aged 14–18 using the LMS curriculum.
- Encourage student engagement, comprehension, and confidence throughout each session.
- Communicate any student concerns or attendance issues to the Program Coordinator.
- Engage in mentor check-ins and briefings, which may occur remotely.
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator Lead on scheduling and session planning.
- Work with a backup mentor pool to ensure continuity of sessions.
- Submit session notes and attendance reports post-session.
A Typical Week
You can expect to conduct one or two in-person sessions each week at the CCI, with your schedule arranged in advance with the Program Coordinator. After traveling to the venue and executing the session using the LMS curriculum, you will provide a brief report summarizing the session. Remote check-ins with the larger mentor team are usually brief and asynchronous.
The Importance of This Role
Your role as a mentor is vital — you will be the face of Proximity Foundation for these students. For many, this may be their first experience with personal mentorship in coding. Your consistent presence, patience, and dedication will help build trust and facilitate effective learning.
