We are seeking a meticulous and skilled Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) Accountant to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). In this pivotal role, you will uphold compliance with the Department of Energy (DOE) Order 474.2A and LLNL’s NMC&A Plan by conducting Special Nuclear Material (SNM) inventories and resolving any discrepancies that arise. This position is essential for safeguarding nuclear material and enabling the Laboratory to fulfill its national security mission.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing data analysis to pinpoint and rectify inventory-related issues concerning the identification, control, and accounting of nuclear materials. You will define and implement solutions to ensure adherence to DOE and LLNL standards.
- Administering and ensuring precise transaction and inventory reporting to the National Nuclear Material Management and Safeguards System (NMMSS), including validation and resolution of discrepancies in transactions recorded in the Local Area Network Material Accounting System (LANMAS).
- Providing expert information and guidance in response to inquiries necessitating research and interpretation of policies and procedures concerning nuclear materials, sealed sources, Tamper Indicating Devices (TIDs), and material accounting network computing resources.
- Collaborating with coworkers, MC&A management, NNSA, DOE complex-wide sites, Material Balance Representatives, and programmatic contacts to prioritize schedules and delivery requirements related to NMC&A matters, including reports and records.
- Reviewing and coordinating programmatic plans and forms to authorize the shipment, receipt, and transfer of Special Nuclear Material (SNM), ensuring compliance with DOE Order 474.2A and the NMC&A Plan while identifying discrepancies and recommending approval actions.
- Conducting assessments and inspections, presenting findings to management, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement solutions for inventory and procedural discrepancies.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems to meet information systems security requirements, ensuring data integrity and providing recommendations for policies and procedures related to information systems security.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
