About One Acre Fund
Established in 2006, One Acre Fund empowers 5.5 million smallholder farmers to enhance their agricultural productivity. Operating in nine countries that collectively house two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we deliver high-quality farming supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and an extensive range of agricultural services. Our model enables farmers to boost their income and assets on supported land by over 35% on average, while also fostering long-term resilience. Our Rwanda program, launched in 2007, is our largest operation, branded as Tubura. We employ more than 3,000 staff across all four provinces of Rwanda and in Kigali, serving over 2.8 million farmers by 2024. Our collaboration with the government supports national initiatives aimed at improving food security, while we also channel funding and resources to promising agri-SMEs, creating markets for high-impact crops such as coffee, avocado, and chili.
About the Role
As a Microinsurance Associate, you will spearhead innovative microinsurance initiatives in Rwanda by designing, testing, and scaling products tailored for smallholder farmers. This role is ideal for a strategic, independent thinker with robust analytical skills and partner management capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Product Development
- Lead the comprehensive design and testing of innovative microinsurance products specifically for smallholder farmers.
- Design and oversee market research, including focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
- Translate pilot learnings into scalable implementation strategies, complete with clear timelines, budgets, and a theory of change.
- Advocate for trial budgets and manage expenditures to remain within designated limits.
- Project Management, Operations, and Distribution
- Establish and monitor performance metrics for pilots and field teams.
- Develop and refine distribution systems to ensure product accessibility and uptake.
- Conduct regular field visits to support training, troubleshoot issues, and ensure alignment at the frontline.
- Build partnerships with insurers, technology firms, NGOs, and public sector entities to facilitate product rollout.
