About the Role
At AI Core, we are amplifying the influence of our AI initiatives to spearhead Nubank's essential decision-making systems. We are on the lookout for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer (Applied AI Scientist) to spearhead impactful research projects that connect cutting-edge AI with production-grade financial systems. Your role will involve addressing intricate and ambiguous challenges through Deep Learning and Foundation Models while ensuring that our architectures are scalable, efficient, and yield measurable business outcomes.
As an Applied AI Scientist (MLE), your responsibilities will include:
- Research Execution & Technical Leadership
- Independently lead and execute complex applied research initiatives, focusing on building and optimizing architectures (e.g., Transformers, GNNs) for critical applications such as Credit, RecSys, GenAI, and real-time inference.
- Tackle challenging and ambiguous modeling problems requiring coordination with various stakeholders (Data, Infra, Product), delivering innovative solutions with a focus on medium-term impact.
- Bridge research and production by designing architectures that adhere to MLOps constraints, ensuring models are optimized for latency, interpretability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Strategic Impact & Collaboration
- Develop and implement innovative solutions that address project-level challenges while integrating the latest advancements in AI research into downstream production models.
- Engage in cross-functional collaborations, ensuring research outcomes are smoothly integrated into Nubank's decision-making frameworks.
- Establish technical standards within the AI Core team for experimentation, model evaluation, and code quality, motivating peers to elevate their performance.
- Mentorship & Function Contribution
- Act as a technical mentor for senior engineers and researchers, providing insights into deep learning fundamentals, problem formulation, and best practices.
