As the Kumu Aʻo (Cultural Ambassador), you will play a vital role in leading a variety of authentic and engaging cultural activities, classes, and workshops, ensuring that our Hawaiian values are woven into every interaction.
Hourly Rate: $26.88
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and facilitate a range of cultural activities on-site or at Keoneopolo Beach, including but not limited to ukulele playing, singing, hula dancing, and lei making.
- Work outdoors for extended periods to gather materials and facilitate cultural engagements.
- Assist the Manager of Hawaiian Culture with retail initiatives and community partnerships.
- Continuously expand your own cultural knowledge and understanding.
- Participate in training opportunities provided by the Manager of Hawaiian Culture.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of our cultural center, Hale Kukuna, and our resort meet and exceed expectations.
- Monitor the condition of items and artifacts in Hale Kukuna, conducting nightly inventory and ensuring their security.
- Adhere to the food handling safety standards established by the State of Hawaii and EHC (Environmental Health Consultancy).
- Organize your time effectively to complete all side work according to shift demands.
- Maintain an atmosphere of aloha spirit by providing engaging, personalized, and efficient service to our guests.
- Focus on guest needs while maintaining a calm and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Promote health and safety awareness and understand emergency procedures thoroughly.
- Follow hotel and departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Contribute ideas for operational improvement and actively participate in departmental communication meetings.
- Engage with and promote Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui’s environmental initiatives.
- Check in with the manager before leaving your shift and communicate any concerns to the Manager On Duty.
Schedule: Given the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays, in order to meet the hotel's operational needs.
