About the job
Who We Are
At Garbarino Disposal, we play a crucial role in maintaining the vitality of our communities. We believe that those who perform this essential work deserve structure, respect, and opportunities for growth.
As a proud third-generation, family-owned waste and recycling company, we have established deep roots and uphold strong values that guide our actions. Our values are not mere words; they are reflected in our leadership, communication, and treatment of one another:
Pride. Grit. Respect. Transparency. Empathy.
Vision: To uplift individuals through essential work, fostering meaningful careers that enhance our communities.
Mission: To deliver an essential service that enables communities and individuals to thrive in a safe and efficient manner.
As we navigate a significant evolution within our company, we are building a robust leadership structure and transitioning ownership towards a more strategic, governance-focused role. The General Manager will be pivotal in this transformation.
The Opportunity
We seek an astute General Manager who possesses the ability to develop, shape, and enhance efficient processes throughout our organization. This individual recognizes inefficiencies and is driven to create structure.
The General Manager will lead four direct reports, each managing their own teams. You will not only oversee individuals but will also design the leadership framework that supports our entire operation.
Comfort in diverse settings is key. You will:
- Review P&Ls and forecasts in the morning
- Engage with drivers and mechanics in the yard during the afternoon
- Unwind with the team over a beer in the evening, fostering a familial atmosphere
This is a unique opportunity for a builder who desires a hands-on leadership role, aiming to shape the future of a legacy business while making a tangible impact on people's lives.
You will be the operational backbone of the business, managing daily operations, leading your team, establishing systems, and reinforcing our culture. You will work closely with ownership to gradually lessen their involvement in day-to-day operations.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily field, yard, shop, and route operations across the organization
- Ensure alignment and support among routes, equipment, and personnel
- Enhance labor efficiency, fleet reliability, and service consistency
- Lead the Team Captain and department leaders with clarity and accountability
People & Culture
- Coach, develop, and support both leaders and frontline team members
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance coaching with a foundation of respect and growth
- Lead with empathy while maintaining accountability...
