The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role in providing strategic financial direction and acts as a dependable advisor to the Managing Partner, Firm Committees, and Firm leadership. This position collaborates closely with the Controller and administrative leadership to enhance financial planning, performance management, pricing strategies, and overall financial operations across the firm, ensuring sustained financial health and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Act as a strategic ally to Firm leadership by delivering in-depth financial analysis, insights, and strategic recommendations.
- Assist in the formulation, monitoring, and management of the Firm’s annual budget, forecasts, and financial goals.
- Evaluate client and matter performance to uncover trends, risks, and avenues for growth and enhanced profitability.
- Compile and present key performance indicators and financial reports to partners and Firm leadership.
Pricing & Profitability Management
- Work in conjunction with partners and practice groups to design strategic pricing models, including alternative fee arrangements (AFAs).
- Assess matter profitability, staffing frameworks, and resource utilization to facilitate cost-effective service delivery.
- Advise partners on pricing strategies, AFA negotiations, and matter economic assessments.
Financial Operations & Oversight
- Collaborate with the Controller to oversee billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and benefits operations.
- Monitor firm-wide financial performance, cash flow, and liquidity.
- Uphold robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard financial integrity.
Reporting, Systems & Compliance
- Guarantee the prompt and precise preparation of financial statements, management reports, and analyses.
- Partner with the Controller and IT leadership to augment financial and business intelligence systems.
- Coordinate annual audits and facilitate tax planning, compliance, and reporting in collaboration with external advisors.
Vendor & External Relationships
- Oversee relationships with key vendors, financial institutions, and service providers.
- Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate advantageous terms, and ensure compliance with contracts.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Foster the development of the accounting team and cultivate a collaborative, professional work environment.
- Participate in partner and management committee meetings, contributing to agenda development and decision-making processes.
- Engage in firm-wide initiatives and special projects aligned with strategic objectives.
