The Field Staff Operations Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the operational needs of our polar expeditions. This position is responsible for developing systems and protocols to optimize expedition operations specifically within the polar regions serviced by our Bluewater fleet. Collaborating closely with the Field Staff Department and the Expedition Development team, the Manager is tasked with innovating and enhancing our operational practices. The role involves extensive travel, with approximately 70 to 100 days spent annually visiting ships, training staff, and mentoring Expedition Leaders while occasionally stepping in as an Expedition Leader. This position reports directly to the Director of Field Staff.
EXPEDITION OPERATIONS
· Manage all Field Staff-based Polar Operations, including:
o Overseeing the acquisition and utilization of essential polar operations equipment (e.g., cross-country skis, snowshoes, kayaks, firearms).
o Designing and implementing necessary training programs for activities such as firearms safety, hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, and bear safety.
o Managing the firearms program and supervising Weapons Masters.
o Collaborating with Marine Operations and Compliance to develop and distribute relevant guidelines and training materials for the fleet.
o Assisting in the creation of safety videos to enhance polar ship operations.
o Supporting Field Staff Coordinators in understanding and communicating polar destination requirements and training.
o Acting as the liaison for the Field Staff Department regarding all Bluewater vessels during shipyard periods.
· Serve as a representative of Lindblad Expeditions across various operational contexts.
