In addition to a strong base salary, USBP offers up to $60,000 in recruitment and retention incentives for eligible candidates (details below).
Salary and Benefits
New BPAs can expect an annual salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). As a federal employee, you will have access to comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
Recruitment Incentive
Eligible new BPAs may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with payments structured as follows: the first $10,000 upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location assignment.
Retention Incentive
Throughout your first four years, you may qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives.
Duty Locations
Important Notice: Duty assignments may include various locations along the Southwest Border. Please note that relocation may be required based on operational needs and available positions. Pay rates may vary by location, and fully trained BPAs can receive up to an additional 25% of base pay as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position, with promotional opportunities available up to GS-12.
