Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs ranges from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). As a Border Patrol Agent, you will have access to a range of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, akin to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Incentives
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for recruitment incentives of up to $20,000, payable after completing the Border Patrol Academy. Additional incentives may be granted for accepting positions in prioritized locations. Over your first four years, you may also qualify for a retention incentive of up to $40,000.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include various locations along the Southwest Border, and relocation may be required. Duty locations impact pay rates, and fully trained BPAs may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with potential progression through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12.
