Salary and Benefits
As a newly appointed Border Patrol Agent, your annual base salary will range between $51,632 and $92,219 depending on your grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, generous leave options, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan comparable to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentives
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can earn up to $20,000 in incentives, with the first $10,000 awarded after completing the Border Patrol Academy, and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, or Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentives
You may also be eligible for up to $40,000 in additional incentives over your first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include locations along the Southwest Border, which may or may not match your preferences. Relocation may be required.
Your duty location influences your pay rates, as locality pay for federal law enforcement varies by location. A fully trained BPA could receive up to an additional 25% of base pay according to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a career ladder progression from GL-5 through GL-12.
