Salary and Benefits
As a newly appointed BPA, your annual salary will range from $51,632 to $92,219 depending on your grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to a comprehensive suite of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, akin to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 will be paid upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 awarded for accepting a position in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, or Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in additional incentives distributed over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note: Duty assignments may include the Southwest Border, including prioritized locations. U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments based on operational needs, which may not align with candidates' preferences. Relocation may be required.
Duty location affects pay rates; some areas offer higher locality pay for federal law enforcement. Fully trained BPAs may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with advancement potential through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12.
