Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs varies by grade level, ranging from GL-5/GL-7 at $51,632 to $92,219 per year. As a Border Patrol Agent, you will have access to a comprehensive suite of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave options, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may qualify for up to $20,000 in incentives, with $10,000 awarded upon completing the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting positions in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, TX, Lordsburg, NM, or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
You may also be eligible for up to $40,000 in retention incentives over the first four years of service.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include locations along the Southwest Border based on operational needs. Relocation may be required. Duty location can affect pay rates, with locality pay potentially increasing earnings by up to 25% based on the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement through various grade levels (GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12).
