Job Summary: As an Endoscopy Technician II, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of gastrointestinal procedures, assisting our nurses and physicians in delivering exceptional care to endoscopy patients. You will be proficient in all basic GI procedures and adept in scope reprocessing. Your responsibilities will encompass preparing the procedure room and sterile field to foster a secure patient care environment, which includes gathering essential instruments and supplies while acting as a procedure assistant. This role also involves safely transporting patients and equipment, maintaining supplies, and ensuring the care and upkeep of endoscopes and accessories, facilitating the smooth operation of our unit. You will exemplify collaboration with all members of the Wellstar healthcare team and demonstrate a thorough understanding of infection control in the GI setting. Under the guidance of management, you will assist in supply and equipment maintenance. Promotion eligibility requires a performance review score of 3 or higher. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:- Patient Care - Mastery of all endoscopy procedures, equipment, and supplies, including complex, high-risk procedures (ERCP, EUS, and wall stent placement).
- Performing all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician across all areas of the lab.
- Preparation for scheduled, emergent, urgent, and add-on endoscopic procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready and set up for use, while efficiently managing unexpected events and mentoring less experienced team members.
- Functioning independently within your scope, anticipating the requirements of physicians and RNs during procedures and addressing departmental needs.
- Demonstrating advanced knowledge and competence for complex procedures, serving as a resource for less experienced staff and preferred technician for intricate tasks.
- Proficiency in operating all GI equipment, providing technical assistance during procedures, troubleshooting equipment as needed, and handling endoscopes as directed by physicians.
- Availability for emergency on-call duties after normal operating hours and weekends as per departmental needs.
- Acting as a preceptor for new employees and a resource for ongoing education.
