ABOUT THE POSITION
The Seattle Art Museum (SAM) is excited to announce an internship opportunity for emerging arts leaders in collaboration with our Education team. This internship will focus on a comprehensive review and enhancement of SAM's Educator Resource Guides.
These guides are essential tools for educators visiting our museum for self-guided tours or integrating museum experiences into their classrooms. They encourage teachers to foster open-ended discussions that elicit a diverse range of student perspectives. The projects featured align with core curriculum areas and are adaptable for various grade levels to meet state and national educational standards, complete with relevant visual resources for classroom application.
The successful intern will undertake a thorough review of existing Educator Resource Guides, updating their content and curriculum. This involves aligning the guides with Washington State learning standards and connecting them to selected artifacts in our collection, as well as piloting engaging activities that correspond with each highlighted object.

COMPENSATION: $21.30 per hour
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This internship offers a unique opportunity to navigate a multi-departmental organization, cultivate valuable professional relationships, and apply individual insights and leadership skills within a museum setting. The intern will:
Gain in-depth knowledge of SAM’s educational strategies for engaging various audiences both within our galleries and beyond.
Learn to effectively gather, organize, and synthesize information from diverse sources.
Refine their writing skills to articulate program objectives, educational outcomes, and the impacts on K-8 student audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on artworks and educational methodologies utilized in previous School & Educators outreach initiatives.
- Explore essential concepts related to arts education, including Visual Thinking Strategies, multimodal communication, and pertinent Washington State curriculum standards.
- Update three Educator Resource Guides with engaging object highlights, hands-on activities, and other K-8 learning materials.
- Create and present a project related to the internship experience or professional interests.
- Participate in a job shadowing experience with frontline volunteers during operational hours.
- Complete a reflective one-page summary, blog entry, or other assigned outputs.
