NYC Parks is undertaking a transformative initiative to convert what was once the largest landfill in the world into a sprawling 2,200-acre park, marking one of the most ambitious public works endeavors in New York City’s history. Freshkills Park integrates cutting-edge ecological restoration techniques and urban ecology research while providing exceptional opportunities for recreation, public art, education, and scientific exploration.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform significant community programming tasks under general supervision, exercising independent initiative and sound judgment to deliver vital community outreach services.
- Develop, facilitate, and promote public programs including educational activities, kayaking, photography, birdwatching, and guided tours.
- Provide administrative and organizational support for the Freshkills Park office and Visitor Center.
- Collaborate with partner organizations, agencies, and community groups.
- Assist in park operations and engage with visitors effectively.
- Help organize and execute public events at Freshkills Park, including races, sports events, art showcases, and festivals.
- Coordinate the creation of content for blog posts, social media, and other communications.
- Support scheduling for outreach, school trips, and specialty events.
