About the job
Join us in shaping the future of veterinary medicine!
At Antigua Veterinary Practice, we recognize the importance of practical experience in your veterinary education. Our DVM Student Externship/Preceptorship Program is designed to provide you with hands-on learning opportunities in a modern, well-managed practice, ensuring you are well-prepared to deliver exceptional care upon graduation.
Program Overview:
Our externship program is flexible, offering options that range from two to eight weeks, tailored to fit your academic schedule. Typically, externships last between two to three weeks, including a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
During your time with us, you will engage directly with a diverse caseload typical of a small animal practice. Under the mentorship of our experienced veterinary team, you will have the chance to enhance your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. You will also actively participate in patient care and receive a stipend of $250 per week.
Your Role:
As an extern, you will gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, create diagnostic and therapeutic plans, assist in surgical procedures, manage medical cases, provide wellness care, and refine your client communication skills while maintaining accurate medical records (SOAPs).
Who We're Looking For:
We seek enthusiastic veterinary students who are committed to our standards of professionalism and ethics. It is important to familiarize yourself with the Veterinary Practice Act to understand the scope of duties you may undertake under supervision, ensuring both your safety and the integrity of our practice.
As a member of our team, we expect you to dress appropriately and conduct yourself professionally, adhering to the expectations outlined in our employee handbook.
