Director of Programme Operations
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Work Location: This position can be based in London, United Kingdom; Abuja, Nigeria; or Kigali, Rwanda, contingent on eligibility to work in these locations.
Hybrid Working in the UK: This role entails a minimum of 40% of working time to be spent in-person (London office, external meetings, or travel). At WaterAid, our hybrid model allows for approximately three days of remote work and two days of collaborative work in the office.
Compensation: Salary and benefits will vary based on the location of the successful candidate and their experience level.
- UK: £68,000 - £74,000 per year with exceptional benefits.
- Nigeria: NGN 64,968,462 – NGN 90,955,847 per year with exceptional benefits.
- Rwanda: RWF 73,661,730 - RWF 89,738,798 per year with exceptional benefits.

Team Overview
The Programme Operations team is part of WaterAid UK’s International Programmes Department (IPD), which operates in 17 countries across Africa and Asia. Comprising over 14 diverse and motivated specialists in planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER), project design and management, and programme systems, this team is essential in supporting global operational excellence, risk management, donor compliance, and performance assurance across WaterAid UK’s country and regional initiatives.
Role Overview
The Director of Programme Operations spearheads the development, execution, and ongoing enhancement of WaterAid’s international programme operations framework. This leadership position encompasses strategic and operational oversight of programme operations, business management, systems, risk, and compliance.
Key responsibilities include managing IPD business processes, facilitating financial planning, performance reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.
