About the Role
As the Director of National Security Policy for the Asia-Pacific region, you will report directly to OpenAI’s global Head of National Security Policy. This senior-level position is pivotal in advancing our engagement with the national security community across the Asia-Pacific. You will serve as the primary policy representative for OpenAI on defense, security, and AI policy matters in the region, establishing OpenAI as a trusted collaborator among national security stakeholders, allied and partner governments, regional multilateral organizations, and influential security institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Cultivate and maintain senior-level relationships with ministries of defense, foreign affairs, intelligence, and cybersecurity across the Asia-Pacific, including key partner frameworks such as ASEAN, AUKUS, and the Quad.
Represent OpenAI in discussions with senior officials, lawmakers, and multilateral entities, including ASEAN-led mechanisms (ARF, ADMM-Plus), regional security dialogues, and Track 1/1.5 channels as appropriate.
Lead external engagements with regional think tanks, research institutions, industry associations, and collaborative bodies focused on AI, security, and resilience, centering around major convenings such as the Shangri-La Dialogue and Raisina Dialogue.
Work closely with the APAC regional team and serve as a connector across OpenAI’s global policy team to align Asia-Pacific initiatives with our overall national security strategy.
Monitor and influence policy developments affecting AI in defense, intelligence, dual-use technologies, and export controls, particularly those linked to Indo-Pacific security collaborations and defense innovation pathways.
Prepare concise policy documents (briefs, memos, and government responses) addressing the national security and public safety implications of advanced AI technologies.
