About the job
Join Primer as the Director of Impact and Partnerships
At Primer, we are a dynamic network of K–8 schools dedicated to reviving the foundational principles of American education. Our mission is inspired by the historic teaching primers that have shaped generations of readers, thinkers, and innovators. We create close-knit learning environments with skilled educators and a culture that values children as serious learners and leaders.
For over 200 years, primers have been pivotal in shaping American education. At Primer, we are committed to ensuring that every child is prepared for the future.
We believe that a child's zip code should not dictate the quality of their education. The Primer Foundation is devoted to making sure this is the last generation for whom that is a reality, providing access to Primer for every family, irrespective of their financial situation, and ensuring we never turn away a family due to inability to pay.
Your Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive fundraising professional to collaborate closely with the Head of the Foundation to amplify our fundraising efforts.
With a robust foundation already established, having raised seven figures in donations during our initial 18 months and earned accolades from leaders in the education philanthropy sector—including the prestigious Yass Prize in 2024—this role is pivotal in expanding our donor base.
You will spearhead the development of a diverse portfolio of major donors, encompassing sourcing, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and renewing relationships with both traditional and innovative donors.
We are looking for a candidate with an entrepreneurial spirit and proven experience in cultivating a major gifts portfolio. You should be a strategic thinker with the capability to grasp the bigger picture while being ready to engage hands-on with the work at hand. A deep understanding of philanthropy principles, creative problem-solving abilities, and a strong implementation skill set are crucial. We recognize that the challenges facing our educational system will not be solved by passivity—bold action is essential to channel resources where they are needed most.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift donors, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.
Establish and oversee a mid-level giving program to strengthen our donor pipeline.
Act as a representative of Primer to donors and community members, building strategic relationships and showcasing Primer at key events.
Enhance stakeholder communications to increase awareness and engagement with our mission.
