Key Responsibilities
The Design and Technical Manager plays a pivotal role in spearheading and overseeing all design-related operations from the inception of projects to their successful construction completion. This position guarantees that designs are meticulously coordinated, feasible, compliant with contractual and regulatory standards, and effectively transformed into high-quality shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
As the primary technical liaison between Clients, Consultants, Authorities, and internal teams at BESIX, this role ensures that the design vision is upheld while optimizing for constructability, safety, cost, and project timelines.
- Design Management & Coordination
- Lead the comprehensive design coordination across various disciplines (Architectural, Structural, MEP, and Specialist Systems).
- Oversee the interactions between designers, specialist subcontractors, and construction teams.
- Facilitate and organize design coordination meetings with consultants, client representatives, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure prompt production, evaluation, and approval of all design outputs as per the Design Management Plan.
- Identify potential design risks early and drive solutions through technical workshops and alternative approaches.
- Guarantee adherence to contract stipulations, specifications, codes, and local authority regulations.
- Transition from Design to Construction
- Convert design intent into executable solutions aligned with BESIX's construction methodologies.
- Lead constructability assessments and value-engineering initiatives in collaboration with Construction, Planning, and Commercial teams.
- Ensure that design outputs are in sync with the established construction sequence and site logistics.
- Shop Drawings & Technical Submittals
- Establish and oversee the registers for Shop Drawings, Material Submittals, and Method Statements.
- Direct the preparation, review, and coordination of:
- Shop Drawings
- Material Submittals and Technical Data Sheets
- Method Statements and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs)
- Ensure consistency between approved designs, shop drawings, and on-site execution.
- Integrate inputs from specialist subcontractors into the overall technical package.
- Stakeholder & Authority Management
- Serve as the principal technical interface with Clients, Consultants, and Authorities.
- Oversee technical approvals and authority submissions in partnership with permitting teams.
- Build credibility and trust with clients through technical acumen and structured communication.
- Team Leadership & Governance
- Lead and mentor project engineers and discipline leads.
- Define and implement the Project Design Management Plan (DMP).
- Establish clear project objectives and performance standards.
