About BEAM
Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is dedicated to providing opportunities for students from low-income, low-access backgrounds to pursue careers in science, mathematics, engineering, and computer science.
We ensure that BEAM students receive high-quality STEM preparation comparable to their more affluent peers. Our commitment to student success is evident through our comprehensive programming from middle school to college graduation, which emphasizes joyful, engaging, and rigorous mathematics, fosters vibrant communities, and supports students in crucial life transitions such as college admissions and financial aid.
Since our inception in 2011, serving just 17 students, BEAM has expanded into a robust year-round national program, currently supporting over 450 students at six summer program sites and 600+ students in year-round programming across New York City and Los Angeles. Additionally, our BEAM National pilot program is now reaching around 1000 elementary-aged students in seven states, developing a nationwide pathway modeled after our local initiatives. Our impact is backed by data, showing that attendees of our 7th-grade summer program are 1.3 times more likely to declare a STEM major than their peers.

Classroom Dynamics
Our classrooms are vibrant, student-focused environments that promote rich discussions. Students engage in exploring patterns, debating conjectures, justifying their reasoning, and collaborating on complex problems. Faculty facilitate this learning through targeted questioning, models, and structures that encourage productive struggles, while affirming students' strengths and identities, fostering their growth as confident problem solvers.
Course Offerings
As a faculty member, you will teach courses in one of BEAM's four signature mathematical areas:
- Pure Topics: Engage with abstract concepts including graph theory, combinatorics, number theory, tessellations, and symmetry, focusing on reasoning and proofs to expand mathematical imagination.
