About the job
At GiveDirectly (GD), we are on a mission to transform international philanthropy by delivering cash grants directly to those living in extreme poverty. The Brookings Institution highlights that an estimated $70 billion in cash transfers is essential to close the poverty gap, while the aid sector currently expends $135 billion annually on interventions lacking rigorous evidence. Our goal is to redefine cash transfers as the standard for foreign aid, analogous to how index funds serve the financial industry, ultimately expediting the end of extreme poverty.
Since our inception in 2011, GD has successfully raised over $1 billion and provided cash assistance to more than 2 million individuals across 15 countries. Our commitment to large-scale experimental research has demonstrated significant impacts for our recipients. This innovative approach has earned GD recognition from esteemed organizations such as Fast Company, and our pivotal role in the cash transfer movement has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist.
Our organizational culture is characterized by transparency, analytical rigor, agility, and flat hierarchies. Our diverse global team of approximately 150, alongside country operations teams comprising around 650 members, operates in 21 countries and speaks 69 languages. From software engineers to humanitarian professionals, management consultants to public servants, and researchers to field operators, our team is a remarkable collective of talent.
We emphasize a set of core values that shape our interactions and decisions. We genuinely prioritize the needs of the people we serve and strive to cultivate an ambitious, dynamic, and high-performing work environment. We encourage you to explore our values; if they resonate with your working style and motivate you, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
We are dedicated to fostering a workplace where all team members can flourish, achieve success, and develop professionally. We advocate for high ownership, flexibility, mutual support, enjoyment, and the creation of growth opportunities.
