About the job
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all New Yorkers. We provide 1.1 billion gallons of premium drinking water daily, manage wastewater and stormwater, and work tirelessly to mitigate air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. As the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the United States, we proudly employ nearly 6,000 dedicated professionals. Our extensive water supply system encompasses 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes, covering a watershed of 2,000 square miles that stretches 125 miles north and west of the city.
The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) manages a robust portfolio of capital projects valued at $35 billion, with an additional $13.6 billion projected in our upcoming 10-year commitment plan. These initiatives are essential for maintaining and enhancing our exemplary water supply system.
Our Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) team oversees the design and construction of significant capital projects for the Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT). Current projects focus on sustainability, resilience, and the necessary upgrades to ensure the system is in good repair—these include main sewage pump system enhancements, solid handling facility upgrades, power system improvements, combined sewer overflow abatement, and pump station rehabilitation. The WWCP consists of project managers and engineers dedicated to delivering projects that prioritize environmental health and safety, quality, timelines, budgets, and client service.
The BEDC is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join the WWCP team in Queens, NY. The chosen candidate will play a vital role within the project team, reporting directly to an Accountable Manager. Under guidance, you will assist the project team in achieving project objectives and milestones, ensuring that all schedules, reports, and deliverables align with the program's scope of work. You will also support the team in preparing, negotiating, and processing modifications to consultant contracts regarding scope, cost, and schedule for successful project completion. As part of your responsibilities, you will provide design and construction support, ensuring that Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) considerations are integrated throughout the project lifecycle. Your role will involve fostering strong client service relationships with operating bureaus, implementing project delivery procedures, and coordinating with BEDC support groups, including Project Controls and Permit Resources. Additionally, you will develop effective communication with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and key stakeholders, monitor permit requirements, assist in resolving project issues, and manage the quality of project delivery throughout.
