The Assistant Mechanic plays a crucial role in the mechanical discipline, undertaking various tasks such as installing and maintaining engines, hydraulic motors, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical devices. This position is pivotal in ensuring the functionality of all mechanical drilling equipment related to well drilling operations, including circulating, rotating, hoisting, and well control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate visible leadership with a commitment to Total Ownership and safety standards.
- Implement, clarify, and adhere to company policies, standards, and procedures.
- Support the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) objective of zero injuries and environmental harm in all mechanical processes and procedures.
- Foster operational excellence through adherence to procedures.
- Effectively delegate tasks with clear requirements and expectations.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of team members under your guidance.
- Comply with emergency response plans and Work Safe Procedures during emergencies and drills.
- Uphold morale and order within the crew.
- Ensure compliance with Authorized To Operate (ATO) and Approved Competent Operator (ACO) standards.
- Understand Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) and Permit to Work procedures.
- Maintain and repair mechanical equipment and devices as needed.
- Replace defective or worn parts as required.
- Lubricate and service mechanical equipment according to the lubrication schedule.
- Conduct inspections of mechanical equipment as necessary.
- Perform both preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment.
- Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all mechanical equipment.
- Adjust or regulate functional parts of machinery and control instruments.
- Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical malfunctions and failures.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Anticipate potential equipment malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate onsite activities to utilize resources effectively for repairs.
- Ensure an adequate inventory of spare parts is maintained.
- Document all mechanical spare parts used and coordinate reordering with the Senior Rig Mechanic.
- Operate drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools for necessary repairs.
- Undertake additional duties and projects as assigned while adhering to labor conduct and safety regulations.
