We are seeking a skilled Assembly Technician to join our team in Cleveland. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling products in accordance with customer specifications. Utilizing assembly blueprints, manuals, engineering memos, and your knowledge of machine construction, you will construct, rebuild, and repair machines and equipment using both hand and power tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop plans for disassembly and repair following established assembly procedures and specifications.
- Ensure parts conform to stock lists and blueprints through the use of measuring instruments like calipers, gauges, and micrometers, while inspecting parts to meet quality standards.
- Manually or with a crane, align components for assembly.
- Utilize chisels, scrapers, files, and powered hand grinders to remove high spots and smooth surfaces. Assemble, set up, and operate machines to verify functionality and compliance with customer specifications.
- Form, bend, and secure piping, fixtures, and attachments necessary for the machine's air, water, and oil supply, including bending and installing hydraulic system pipes.
- Check alignment and tolerances of moving parts using dial indicators and micrometers.
- Install moving parts like shafts, levers, or bearings, testing their free movement and operation by hand. Participate in or assist with the testing of the completed product's operation.
- Align and mesh gears in the gearbox to assemble gear systems.
- Mount and connect auxiliary mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic equipment; cut and fit pipes and tubing as needed.
- Conduct tests or assist in testing the completed product's operation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional mechanical skills and the ability to proficiently utilize cranes and heavy tools typically required for assembly and disassembly tasks.
- Ownership of necessary tools and capability to use them effectively.
- Ability to use judgment in planning and executing operations and processes, adhering to established methods and procedures.
- Competence in interpreting blueprints to determine appropriate disassembly sequences for various heavy equipment.
- Skill in reading and interpreting assembly prints and understanding verbal and written instructions.
- Proficiency in using small machine tools, drill presses, welders, cranes, and forklifts.
- Basic computer skills and ability to apply basic shop mathematics.
- Effective verbal communication skills with team members, supervisors, and engineers.
- Physical strength and ability to safely handle heavy equipment and tools.
