Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience as a heavy equipment operator.40-Hr HAZWOPER or current 8-Hr HAZWOPER Refresher Certification is required. Preferred experience in the construction industry. A valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is essential.

Join our dedicated team at Essel Environmental as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In this pivotal role, you will operate diverse heavy machinery to facilitate construction, maintenance, and operations across our facilities and projects. The ideal candidate will showcase exceptional operational skills, prioritize safety, and demonstrate a commitment to achieving project deadlines and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct excavations and trenching within closed landfills for landfill gas collection and leachate systems.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Ensure that all equipment is consistently maintained and in optimal working condition.
  • Operate heavy machinery with precision, coordination, and an acute awareness of safety protocols.
  • Skillfully slope or bench excavations and accurately read and interpret cut and fill stakes.
  • Maintain clear communication with field crew members through hand signals or radio.
  • Confirm safety measures are in place to prevent conflicts with both above and below-ground utilities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Proficient communication skills in English.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and hazard recognition.
  • Capability to comprehend plans related to trenching, excavation, and grading.
  • Knowledge of U. S. markings.
  • Team player attitude that fosters a constructive work environment.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach.
  • Experience in checking grade and verifying elevations using a laser is a plus.
  • Ability to lead daily activities of a small crew is also advantageous.
