What You’ll Be Doing:Be a vital member of the Sustaining Engineering team in the Infra::Machines::Design Organization. Oversee server hardware, cabling, and network components throughout their operational lifecycle. Monitor the #machines channel and MACHINES JIRA project for issues, driving them to resolution. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation with team members. Serve as Tier 2 escalation for Datacenter Operations (DCOPS) and Cloud Operations (CloudOps) concerning hardware and firmware components. Develop and uphold standards for DigitalOcean hardware operations. Collaborate closely with various teams including Qualification, Firmware, Fleet Lifecycle Engineering (FLE), Foresight, and Infrastructure Services to resolve tooling, firmware, and operational issues. Assist in developing tools and associated documentation to fill operational gaps in hardware and firmware. Coordinate with Operations teams on monitoring thresholds, failure modes, and alerting procedures. Help troubleshoot failure causes and implement preventative measures. Elevate our cloud infrastructure's quality by identifying and adopting industry best practices.

  • Maintain and enhance the hardware infrastructure across DigitalOcean’s server ecosystem.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting data center hardware at scale.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Infra::Machines::Design to ensure reliable hardware operations.
  • Support hardware and firmware, delivering strong technical assistance as our data center capabilities grow.
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies to improve service for DigitalOcean’s customers.
